Activity 3, Part 1:

When I started this activity I had a hard time thinking of topics to cover. After some thought I decided to start making tutorials for using google programs. I started with three videos. The topics are sharing documents, using add-ons, and the shelf on the bottom of chrome books. My class will be using Chromebooks quite a bit this year and I wanted a place for my students to go to refresh themselves on some aspects of google. I am a visual learner and I sometimes look up tutorials to learn from. I feel this wold benefit my students greatly, especially in the early stages of learning how to use online based programs. I also added a page to my blog titled technology help. This is where I will keep these short videos. I would like to add more videos to help my students to get more comfortable with their Chromebooks.

This was only my second time using screen casting and I had never used snagit. This was an interesting activity and a little frustrating at first, but once I got comfortable with the program I saw how this could be helpful in the classroom. In the beginning I was a little uncomfortable with hearing my voice and I over analyzed what to say but I feel it got easier each time I did it. I believe my students would enjoy using screen casting in the classroom. screen casting will add an exciting element for them when demonstrating understanding.

Activity 3, Part 2:

For the past few years, I have watched some of my students get excited about YouTube and wanting to start their own channel. I am still not sure how often I would have my students put items they created on YouTube. My students will be able to store videos in their drive which can be pulled up on any computer connected to the internet. This feature alone takes away from the need to put a movie on YouTube. However, I think they would have a great time with creating their own videos. I feel educating them on how to use YouTube at an early age will allow them to feel more comfortable in later grades which will help them use it as a tool in the classroom. Teachers can spark excitement by using web tools in the classroom and this will enhance students learning experience.

  1. I love your videos, Aaron! You taught me some cool new tricks! I don't think elementary or middle school students are allowed to post on YouTube with our school accounts, but I'll check on that. You're right that kids can save videos to Drive and share them with their teachers and classmates, though.

  4. I also found it difficult to think of a topic to screencast. In the past I used the SMART board recording tool, and it was easy to go through math problems using slides I had already created. One thing I loved about snagit was it saved videos directly to Google Drive. This makes them much more accessible (and organized)! :) Great Work!
